Bisibelibath
Ingredients
- Toor dal 3/4cup
- Rice 1 cup
- Any veggies of your choice
- Tomatoes
- Onions (optional)
- Tamarind
- Jaggery
- Green chillies
- Chilli powder
- Salt
Method
- Cook rice and dal (1:2 water ratio) in pressure cooker (3 whistles) or Instapot (rice setting).
- Take a pan and pour oil , add jeera , mustard, hing and cashews.
- Add tomatoes and any vegetables that you want to add. Note: Traditional recipe doesnt call for any vegetables, so adding them is optional.
- After the vegetable are little cooked, add tamarind water, little jaggery, green chillies, chilli powder and salt as per taste.
- Let the vegetables cook fully but do not make them mushy.
- Add masala powder mixed in water . Do not add a lot, the flavour increases after it gets cooked.
- Mix the cooked vegetables in cooked rice-dal mixture.
- Pour water and let it cook
- Garnish with ghee and cilantro and serve with Kara Boondi or Papad.
Notes:
- Do not add lot of masala powder, we recommend to use not more than 2tsp for 1cup rice. You can always add more at the end.
- Mix the masala in water before adding it.
